Whoa! That's a loaded question. And you're sure to get many different answers. So, here goes mine...The simple answer to the question above is yess, but only to a certain point. It depends on what you are looking for and how much time and energy you are willing to devote to developing a friendship/relationship.

My history with success has been varied. I have been on several dates with men that I've met online. There were good dates (a few) and not so good dates (many more). I could wax poetic about all the things I've endured on 'online first dates'. As I jog my memory, I recall the caucasian CPA with the salt & pepper afro; and then there was the Totally Awesome Guy Who was Shorter than Me. And, who can forget the 'Marathon Man'. I will let your imagination wander [on how these guys got their pseudo nicknames].

In closing, I must admit that online dating can be fun. However, the most important thing is to approach it with a clear understanding of what you realistically hope to get [from online dating]. Is it a friend in your head (someone you chat with via e-mail and/or IM); an IRL (in real life) friend; or something fun and playful with no strings attached.

Remember, online dating takes time and energy. So, turn on your monitor, grab your iPod and start making friends [or whatever you're seeking] through your favorite online dating site.

Signed,
Huniluv, an Online Dating Veteran

Posted by Sobers: "To be honest, dating women online can be a truly depressing thing. Unless your a model handsome earning over 100k a year, your screwed. Women seem to reject any and all guys without even given them a chance thinking if they just hang in there long enough prince charming will turn up."

Sobers, I haven't found that to be true at all. I don't consider myself ugly, but I've never thought that I'm extremely drop dead gorgeous either. As my wife would tell me, "You're not Brad on Young and the Restless."

However, I think you need to give women a bit more benefit of the doubt. I later found out that I almost didn't get a second date with my future wife. The reason? Because apparently, I showed up in "Getup" and she thought my hairstyle really sucked. However, I got that second date because I happened to mention that a girlfriend of mine was taking me shopping for new clothes the next weekend. I'd recently lost a lot of weight and needed help picking out a new wardrobe. I was also getting her advice on a new hairstyle. My future wife decided I couldn't be all bad, if I was willing to listen to feminine advice. I found out what she really thought about the clothes I wore on that first date when I introduced her to my female friend for the first time.

If you aren't the most handsome boy on the block, get some help with the wardrobe. It can't hurt.

Quoting Booklover73:

Hey Rumple, We are living the life to the fullest! Never a dull moment. Well, except when I'm doing homework and such. Can't wait till I'm done with school, then we can spend even more time together.

you ARE my hero... and role model for many as well...

HOWEVER, to keep the playing field fair and balanced, it would appear that the poster child for abstinence and celibacy has appeared with words of wisdom and ambidexterity in abundance...

then again keeping a positive spin on the sobering words of wisdom, this approach could be a new alternative approach to birth control... no gender mixing and living vicariously through ones own libido... pass the ky...

jus' luv that kool and the gang song...

celibate good times...!!! yeh...yeh...!!!

To be honest, dating women online can be a truly depressing thing. Unless your a model handsome earning over 100k a year, your screwed. Women seem to reject any and all guys without even given them a chance thinking if they just hang in there long enough prince charming will turn up.

They don't care, they a HUGE sexual advantage over men and they know their will be lots of suitors waiting around the corner. If you are ugly and poor, you are screwed and nothing you can say will get cute, good-looking girls to go out with you. I've COMPLETELY lost interest in trying to find a girl--it just won't happen, and I've stopped trying and caring.

Since then I've devoted myself to literature, art, music, and my career. So guys, if you are ugly like me, you have two choices: date ugly women and feel bad and lower your self esteem, or don't date at all.

Re:

TriChique write:
I would have to agree with you.

most of the guys I have met inline get fizzled with the amount f energy it takes.
I got fizzled with the lack of sharing of information (ie ignoring or not answering certain questions)

I'm still at it a bit. But deciding I may have to skip the online thing except to get a few laughs, and find local establishments to meet people.

I get you TriChique. I was corresponding with a chick who wouldn't answer my questions. Would act like I hadn't asked them. I finally just stopped writing to her.

Don't give it up though. It took about three years, but I finally found the right one.
